"The Best Coast, as an exercise in asymmetrical thinking took place in a beautiful 8,000 sq. ft warehouse with million dollar views of Portland's downtown skyline. Outside of the privileged white walls of the typical gallery space the works had to speak for themselves amongst the ample natural light and concrete setting. The work was very physical focusing mainly on installation, video, sculpture and painting that operated as an object. This physicality highlighted the complicated intellectual hedonism of the west while showcasing some of the best from the buzzing Portland scene amongst their West Coast neighbors. The show took place during the AAM convention and hundreds of curators from The Whitney, The Andy Warhol Museum to university galleries got to take in the show. For art curators it was the talk of the convention." curator jeff jahn
.a greatly anticipated art extravaganza . an ambitious, provocative and impressive undertaking. in an art scene where noninstitutional artists and curators are one of its strongest elements, Jahn's "The Best Coast" stood out. The Oregonian, May 30th 2003, by D.K. Row
