Jay Johnsons’s interactive installation Anthem is obviously a comment on American power. With its sound activated flag waving and its turn this crank-hear machine gun fire aspects it was a crowd pleaser. It is interesting to note that most art from Vancouver tends to be very clean, with a sort of high gloss production value as if the past never existed. Johnson is the complete opposite, the distressed wood and folksy machine parts practically ooze memory.
