Sean Healy

Sean Healy is concerned with memory on an almost primal, cellular level. In Pissing Contest, two identical wolves try to outdo each other but the fields of intersecting yellow become more important than whatever the two wolves are territorially battling over. It is a reminder that nationalism is far from dead, especially in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Instead of pure nostalgia, this is a reminder that humans have certain tendencies and their competition will have effects. For artists this competitive nature leads to stronger work and Pissing contest is certainly a breakthrough for Healy whose precious work was more contained and subdued.
