M.K. Guths’s video, Weekend Get Away uses two superheroes Batman and Batgirl to tell a story of modern alienation. It seems obvious that the two like each other but their costumes as signifiers of responsibilities and a defense mechanism never get shed. In the end, the constant tide of the ocean is the only thing between them, but we know it was doomed. The very activated sea on the other hand is not so pensive, and anthropomorphically it suggests that someday even these two staunch superheroes will have to drop the act. Maybe not this weekend or for each other, but eventually the sea wins.
