Laura Fritz’s Section 1 video doesn’t have that dated look that nearly all video pieces accumulate because it also operates as an object. With its flickering light and a moth image behind a milky scrim it is a stimulating confluence of sci-fi and noir imagery. Is it an experiment or a metaphor for art viewing? The piece required a great deal of darkness and the concrete warehouse environment gave the installation a covert x-files vibe. The overall sense was that of an experiment that had been left behind, heightening the creepy-otherness of the art adventure. Instead of the clean tidiness of most video pieces there was a general sense of trespassing… much like man and nature’s uneasy balance.
